WORKSHOPS
Unless otherwise stated workshops will have theory sessions in the morning (unfortunately dogs are not allowed in the hall,) a long lunch break when local owners can fetch their dogs, and owners from further away can walk their dogs, and practical handling sessions at the barn in the afternoon. Both handler and spectator places are usually available.
9am. - 12pm. – Theory (including a break with light refreshments.)
2pm. - 5pm. – Practical (your dog will NOT be working for all of this time. You and they will need a break, and you will also learn from watching other owners. Please be prepared to leave your dog in the car or take them for a walk for some of this time.)
These courses are usually not suitable for dogs that bark at or are aggressive to other dogs or people HOWEVER we can sometimes work around problems doing some of the practical handling on a one-to-one basis. If you are not sure please phone us to discuss things further.
May 28 th – CLICKER workshop – Led by Christina Oxtoby
This is intended to be a thorough introduction to Clicker training with a view to giving owners the skills they need to clicker train their dog at home.

July 8 th (evening) - 9 th - DOG GAMES – Led by Sally Hopkins
Friday July 8 th – Starts 7pm
Saturday July 9 th – 9:30-5:00pm including regular breaks to allow owners to attend to their dogs or to take them home after they have finished working.
Sally Hopkins completed the 2 year course International Dog Trainer’s School taught by Turid Rugaas ( Norway), Alan Bauman (USA), John Rogerson and Sheila Harper (UK). She is a full member of the Pet Dog Trainers of Europe, and now travels and lectures around Greece, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Germany. Her lectures have included Stress-free agility and flyball, and she has now developed a series of games that are accessible to pet dogs. To find out more visit her web-site www.dog-games.co.uk.
The Friday evening talk will be an explanation of the theory behind Dog-Games, and the Saturday will be a practical demonstration of the games working with owners and their dog on a one-to-one basis. Each dog will have a minimum of one and a maximum of two sessions, and handler places are limited. Everyone else will be able to watch these sessions and hear Sally talking about each dog’s behaviour, how it is learning, and showing techniques that we can use to help all of our dogs to learn more easily. Ichthus Canine Centre highly recommends this workshop.
Because practical aspects of Dog-Games are trained on a one-to-one basis this workshop is suitable for dogs with SOME behavioural problems (including dogs that are unhappy with other dogs or people.) Please phone for more details.
Cost – Handler - £30
Spectator - £20
Sally has offered us this course at a special discounted rate to promote Dog-Games in the UK. It is unlikely that we will be able to offer this course again at this price.
July 23 rd – FUN NOSEWORK – Led by Christina Oxtoby
The emphasis will be on having fun with your dog and learning new things that you can teach them at home. It will include practical introductions to tracking, finding hidden objects, and scent discrimination. Be prepared to be amazed at just how sensitive your dog’s nose is and how much they love using it!
Cost – Handler - £20
Spectator - £10
September 10 th (please note change of date) – HEELWORK TO MUSIC – Led by Christina Oxtoby
This is designed to be a practical course to help people to get started in Heelwork to Music and Canine Freestyle. Topics covered will include music (Christina has an honours degree in music,) dance (approached in a fun and encouraging way for the terrified!) as well as how to teach some of the moves.
Cost – Handler - £20
Spectator - £10
AUGUST
Normal training courses will not be running for most of August. Instead, one-off fun and games classes and social walks will be arranged. Please ask for further details nearer the time.
ICHTHUS CANINE CENTRE BIRTHDAY PARTY
In September 2005 Ichthus Canine Centre will be one year old! My very sincere thanks go to every one of you for making it such a success. To celebrate we will be holding a ‘Bring and Share Buffet.’ EVERYONE that has attended any course is welcome to come to the buffet - please let me know if you would like to come . This evening will be free of charge, but to keep costs down it will be operated on a basis of bringing some food or drink with you and everyone sharing what they have brought.
Date and time – 24 th September, 7pm at Wilsford village hall . Sorry, but due to noise and numbers this evening will be without dogs. It will give owners (and partners) an opportunity to meet and chat.
AGILITY AND FLYBALL
We are currently looking into running agility and flyball classes. Although there are a number of agility centres in this area, our classes will be specifically designed so that dogs will be able to stay calm and relaxed and not get over-excited (which can create a number of behavioural problems.) Watch this space for further details
